The Countdown Is On
Time to be obstreperous. Vote.
Every seat in every election in every single town, city, and school district is integral to saving our state from the sinister, odious, shameless, folks pushing, creating, legalizing, and implementing ignorant and hate-fueled regulations, legislation, and quite honestly everyday interactions that degrade the morality and humanity of Iowans.
City and school board elections are only a few months away, and then midterms are pressed down on us. Voter turnout records need to be broken every single election across Iowa. Voters gotta vote.
Organizers—I’m speaking directly to you. I’m angry at you. Nothing, nothing, has broken me like the extremes in political landscape in the past 18 months. Defunding public schools and their support systems, defunding AEA, removing protections from the Iowa Civil Rights Act, stripping the abilities of the Auditor of State, creating legislation that protects corporations while limiting Iowa’s citizens abilities to hold those very same corporations accountable for their debouchery and destruction, just to name a few, is a reflection of this legislations desire for Iowans to feel desolate. You must, must, must collectively connect the individuals in this state in ways that are meaningful to the individual—not necessarily to you. Meet people where they are, both literally and figuratively. There has been too much talking at and not enough conversating with. Check your ego, learn from every conversation, and apply your newly gained knowledge immediately. Quit arguing with each other in your own spaces at events meant for seeking commonality and remember we are stronger together. Iowans need you to engage so Iowa will be successful. If hate and ignorance continues to win over voters, you’ve failed. Keep fighting. Fight for yourself. Fight for the ones you love. Fight for Nephew. Bring Iowans together. Show people how we don’t need to agree on everything to want the best for each other and ourselves. Show humility. Show bravery. Show us all what Iowans accomplish when we work together. Teach those 33 state senators and the 60 state representatives what ostrepedous is—and do it together. We are stronger together. We are smarter together. We are louder together.
